- As part of Alberta's Water for Life strategy , Alberta Environment continues to assess the sustainability of municipal drinking water systems throughout Alberta.
- In 2003-04, Alberta Environment completed a province-wide, comprehensive assessment of more than 500 municipal waterworks systems across the province.
- The assessment was completed as a proactive planning tool that serves as a road map for ensuring sustainable drinking water systems throughout Alberta. It is not an indicator of the safety of drinking water.
- The overall assessment of drinking water facilities evaluated the state of source water supply, treatment process and overall operations for waterworks facilities considering both present and future populations.
- The assessment resulted in independent results for each facility as well as the Waterworks Facility Assessment Report , which makes recommendations on infrastructure and operations.
- The facility assessments and rankings represent conditions at the time of evaluation - they serve as a "snapshot in time" and do not necessarily represent the current status of municipal systems.
- Updated information is provided for each community and can be accessed by clicking on the "Facility Update" link provided for each facility.
